ASSESSMENT OF LIVER FUNCTION MARKERS IN AMIETOPHRYNUS MACULATUS AND PTYCHADENA PUMILIO AS A BIOMONITORING TOOL OF HEAVY METALS POLLUTION IN SELECTED AREAS OF LAGOS STATE.

The sensitivity of African amphibians Amietophrynus maculatus and Ptychadena pumiliowere exploited in determining oxidative stress induced by heavy metals pollution selected areas Lagos state.Lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr), zinc (Zn) Nickel (Ni) which is one the factors that contribute to amphibian population decline.The mean levels Total protein (TP), Aspartate Aminotransferases (AST) Alanine (ALT) Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) liver both sampled animalsin five locations State (Ibafo, Iwaya, Makoko 1, 2 Unilag) were assessed for their as a biomomitoring tool polluted environment.Three healthy matured A.maculatus (79.00 ± 5.00g) P. pumilio(62.00 5.00g)were randomly collected from three points eachselected locations.The resultsshowed thatthe highest values TP, AST, ALT ALP detected animals 55.43 g/L, 71.67 U/L, 19.00U/L 31.00 U/L respectively. AST all locationswere only consistent function markers.Additionally, Ibafolocations most relative other sites indicated sampled. Therefore, role these test parameters could be good battery monitoring tools assessing environmental health an early warning signalin toxicology studies.
